Do you want to enhance your smile? Are you aiming for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance and/or restoring function to your mouth?
If this is the case, you may have started researching the possibilities of which dentist in Europe can help you. And you may have come across two terms – complete oral rehabilitation and smile makeover.
The terms seem so similar, so what’s the difference? Which procedure is right for you? Read on as we explain the differences between complete oral rehabilitation and a smile makeover. In this week’s Dental Center 4Smile blog, we will help you determine which procedure will give you the results you want.
What is complete oral rehabilitation?
Complete Oral Rehabilitation involves a series of dental procedures to restore both the function and aesthetics of your smile. Complete Oral Rehabilitation is typically performed for patients with a significant number of missing and/or damaged teeth or advanced gum disease threatening tooth loss. Complete Oral Rehabilitation restores dental functionality while simultaneously improving smile aesthetics.
What is included in complete oral rehabilitation?
The therapy of Complete Oral Rehabilitation may include various dental procedures such as:
- Root canal treatment for severely damaged teeth;
- Tooth extraction to remove teeth that cannot be fixed by endodontic treatment (canal treatment);
- Dental implants, which are titanium screws that are inserted into the jawbone and are covered with ceramic dental crowns to replicate the appearance of teeth. Dental implants are a permanent solution to tooth replacement and if properly treated, they can last a lifetime;
- Ceramic dental crowns, to restore the structural deficiencies of the teeth;
- Dental bridges, which are a series of three or more connected ceramic dental crowns, which are used to replace missing teeth. With dental bridges, two end dental crowns are placed over your existing, healthy teeth, and a middle dental crown or dental crowns replace your missing teeth;
- Ceramic veneers, which can be used to cover chipped or stained teeth that are healthy. Read more about complete oral rehabilitation in our blog: WHAT IS COMPLETE ORAL REHABILITATION?
What is Smile Transformation or Smile Makeover?
A Smile Makeover is a series of dental procedures performed exclusively for aesthetic purposes. It is ideal for patients with healthy teeth but may have misaligned or spaced teeth, aiming to transform the smile into a more aesthetically pleasing one. Smile Makeovers often boost self-confidence.
What is included in Smile Makeover?
Smile Makeover includes various aesthetic dentistry procedures such as:
- Teeth whitening, to lighten colored teeth;
- Ceramic dental veneers, thin sheets of ceramic, similar to a shell, that are placed on existing teeth that have imperfections, such as damage or stains, old worn fillings
- Gingivectomy or gingivoplasty, a procedure to remove excess gum to increase the visible crown of the tooth and to straighten the smile line
- Ceramic dental crowns, although typically a functional procedure, can also be used to cover teeth that have too much damage to be covered with dental veneers alone.
