Nowadays there are real and invented syndromes. “Superman syndrome” has several meanings, depending on the field you are exploring.

In this week’s blog of Dental Center 4Smile, we talk about “Superman syndrome” as the idea that some men do not take sufficient care of their health, never go for medical checkups, and last had their blood tests done during the medical exam for their driver’s license. All this because they believe they are somehow invincible – Supermen.

Do you know someone like that?

To avoid too much controversy, of course women can also have “Superman syndrome.” Instead of admitting that we have a problem, we tend to simply ignore health warning signs. We hope that our body will fix it on its own or that the problem will just disappear.

One example from dental practice is bleeding gums, which is one of the first signs of gum disease. A recently conducted survey among men and women by a pharmaceutical company revealed something shocking. Only 1 in 10 respondents who noticed blood in their saliva while brushing their teeth actually visited a dentist!

When it comes to oral health and practicing proper oral hygiene, it may not surprise you that men lag behind women. Research has shown that as many as 62% of male respondents regret not taking better care of their oral health earlier. The good news is that it is never too late for a change.

An interesting comparison is how men usually take very good care of their cars. They know how important it is for the engine to run “like clockwork,” to always have enough oil and water, and that regular servicing is unavoidable. Well, it’s time to realize that all of this is also necessary for your body if you don’t want to risk your health and your life.

The worst diseases – minimal symptoms!

Remember, the worst diseases initially have minimal symptoms! That’s why it is always said that prevention is the mother of health. When it comes to oral health, it is important to remember that dental nerves and blood vessels are connected to the entire body. If you allow a tooth to decay for a long time, the pus and bacteria will spread to the rest of the body. It has been proven that bacteria that cause periodontal disease affect the cardiovascular system. They are also linked to rheumatoid arthritis and pancreatic cancer!

If we’ve scared you even a little-good, that was the goal! A large number of people are afraid of visiting the dentist. Some generally don’t like going to the doctor, and some think they are Supermen.

At Dental Center 4Smile, we understand all the reasons why some people don’t go for regular checkups. What we don’t understand is how they are not afraid of more serious consequences?! As far as we know, we have only one life, and we should protect it.

We take care of our cars, even though we know they have a much shorter lifespan than our own. The time has come, dear men (and women), to focus your attention on your health as well! Regular dental checkups and regular preventive medical examinations are absolutely necessary.

When all results are in order and all teeth are healthy, then we will proudly call you a true Superman!
