If you’re missing a tooth, you have two replacement options – a dental implant or a dental bridge.
Many patients lack the necessary information to choose the best solution for their oral health, smile, and budget.

In this week’s blog from Dental Center 4Smile, read about:

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are titanium replacements for the root of one or more missing teeth.
They are made of biocompatible material (titanium) and integrate (osseointegrate) with the surrounding bone.

Dental implant
When do we recommend a dental implant?
  • When only one tooth is missing, the ideal solution is a dental implant, as it doesn’t require grinding down the adjacent healthy teeth
  • When there simply aren’t enough natural teeth to support a bridge, implants can serve as supports for the bridge
  • When the patient has intact (filling-free) teeth
What is a ceramic dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a prosthetic replacement made of at least two connected dental crowns.

Dental Bridge
When do we recommend a ceramic dental bridge?
  • When multiple teeth in a row are missing
  • When the teeth that will support the future bridge have large fillings and treated root canals
  • When the teeth have already been ground down (for example, if the patient previously had a bridge)
  • When there aren’t large toothless gaps, so a bridge can be attached and there’s no room for an implant
  • When there isn’t enough bone for implants
